Attractions on the Island
The Grand Hotel
The Grand Hotel is one of the biggest attractions on Mackinac Island. This hotel opened in 1887 and is home to the world’s longest porch with a stunning view of the Straits of Mackinac. No two rooms are similar in the hotel with each room decorated to parallel films such as “Somewhere in Time”. This 1980 American period romance with time-travel was filmed at the Grand Hotel and showed off its beautiful interior.
Hiking Trails
The entirety of Mackinac Island is less than 4 square miles with more than 80% being considered a State Park so it’s easy to explore a lot in one day. There are more than 70 miles of hiking trails running through the State Park.
Fort Mackinac
Fort Mackinac was built by the British during the American Revolutionary War to control the Straits of Mackinac and with it the fur trade. This fort became the scene of the very first engagement on American soil in the War of 1812.
The Arch Rock
The Arch Rock is the most famous of the many rock formations on the island with it being more than 50 feet wide and it shows off the beautiful water of the island.
